In Revenge of the Sith, Master Kenobi, completing his pursuit of the vile General Grievous, is forced of necessity to use a blaster for the kill shots. Drolly disappointed in himself, Kenobi quips "so uncivilized!" as he tosses the blaster aside. The light saber is held as a holier and higher form of warfare in all of Star Wars. And from the cantina onward, at least from a Jedi's point of view, the light saber is used only in defense.
Precept 5: The practical Jedi's weapons are intellect, compassion, communication and if necessary flesh and bone. In our world, there are certainly noble individuals who bear arms (police and soldiers) but also weaponized ignoble actors. The practical Jedi is an unarmed adjunct to and an independent arbiter of this societal struggle. Before you mutter that this is impractical flaky nonsense, remember the very beginnings of our discussion. The practical Jedi is a force for good. Is there any evidence you can show me that more people with weapons helps anything? The practical Jedi must find a new method of influence.
