practical jedi 13

I return again to Tarkin and his incredulity that Obi-wan Kenobi might still be alive.  "The Jedi are extinct.  Their fire has gone out of the universe."  Such a peculiar quote.  So certain of a total annihilation, Tarkin still speaks with a reverence of the Jedi -- their fire, their essence, their presence, their power.  One would speak in such terms about the Spartans, the Whigs, the '27 Yankees or NWA.  What does it take for an individual's or a group's fire to be in the universe?

My job is to prepare you for those days when your fire flickers to almost nothing, an ember at wick's end.  This will happen on the precipice of a long-needed rest.  This will happen when you are rejected or upbraided by those you most want to help.  And it will happen with every perceived failure.  A fatigued intellect loses track of a beaten soul and one almost comes undone.

Preparation 1:  The practical Jedi is resilience incarnate.  Burn-out is highly impractical.  Let that sink in before we discuss how.
