Compare Obi Wan Kenobi and Yoda in the original Trilogy to Master Luke Skywalker in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.  The old masters are calm, self-contained and focused on both task and legacy.  They are models of consistency even after devastating physical and emotional trauma.  The hardened Luke Skywalker, in contrast, is defensive, jaded and closed off from his life's work.  All are in exile but one is lost.  These movies (we must always discern fiction from life) were written for different generations and certainly this plays a role.  I feel that Luke Skywalker, due to abbreviated training and trial by fire, learned to listen to his heart but never learned to quiet his mind.  Left to his own cacophonous thoughts, he lost focus and purpose.

Practicum 5:  The practical Jedi masters tranquility of mind only through years of practice.  Every opportunity for sleep is an opportunity to train.  Rest, like many other things, will become a precious resource.  Can you lay down your burdens at a moments notice so that you may pick them up again when required? Seek out serenity of the physical world -- shorelines, rocky coves, shady trees and open trails.  Bring the order of undisturbed nature in and expel human stresses.  Quiet your mind.
