In a petulant and ominous act, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer specifically denied The New York Times, CNN, The Los Angeles Times, Politico and BuzzFeed access to a press briefing. My sincere lauding to Time and AP for sitting out in solidarity.
David Brooks said on "Meet the Press" last weekend that he was more concerned about a stumbling toward anarchy than a slide toward fascism. This certainly seems like another step in the latter direction. Cliche as it may be, I'm getting tired of it all. I grow weary of defending the value of liberal democracy in a cogent and respectful way when I am on a daily basis exposed to lies, tweets, incompetence and slander. Others made it a full eight years as the adult in the room. I've made it about three months. And today I'm taking a break, because as Donna Meagle and Tom Haverford said, sometimes you just have to "Treat Yo Self".
Let's say it's not fascism, just for the sake of argument. Let's say it's just stupidity, insecurity, a healthy dose of racism, sexism, homophobia and a whole bunch of insecurity. Here's a little piece of machismo advice for the president and the press secretary -- this is not going to be my most articulate blog (or "blah-g" as my friend Rose says). When a guy constantly talks about how big his dick is, everyone knows that he has a small dick. When a guy tries to act tough and assert his manhood, everyone knows that he's overcompensating.
So now I feel like I have free reign to be petulant for the rest of the day. Sean Spicer is now uninvited to the following events:
-Shaftacular family day at the Field Museum in Chicago (2/25/17)
-Mark Buehrle number retirement ceremony party (6/24/17)
-Julianne Moore acting career retirement ceremony (to be determined, please God soon)
-Slider K. Shaftacular Paid Off All His Student Loans Blow-Out Bash (budgeted for October 2020)
-tea party with my daughter and her dolls (weekly)
