Jay Cutler was released by the Chicago Bears today.  Eight seasons.  Three head coaches.  Six offensive coordinators.   Fifty two wins.  Fifty two losses. One playoff win.  No Super Bowl appearances.

Cutler was always the villain in Chicago.   From his passing decisions (leading to too many interceptions) to his vaccination decisions (leading to the reversal of the greatest accomplishments of modern medicine), I disagreed with many things that Cutler said and did.  While I was frequently pissed at him, I never understood the demonization.   He was arrogant but never pompous.  He was critical but never cynical.  He played hurt but never milked it.  He's got resting jerk face but was very involved in charitable works.

The story here is not the failure of Jay Cutler but the failure of the Chicago Bears.  Sure Jay was 52-52.  But without Jay, the Bears were 5-17 in the same time period.  Poor drafting, poor player personnel decisions and poor interactions with the fans.  The Bears have been ineptly administrated and impotently coached for two decades.  None of this is Jay Cutler's fault.

Jay Cutler's release is the end of an era in as far as his role in Bear's history.  But the era of ineptitude keeps rolling on.  Enter Mike Glennon, nothing more than $15 million ways to leave your lover.
